Since 2011, Wigle Whiskey, Pittsburgh’s first distillery since Prohibition, has worked to restore Western Pennsylvania’s legacy as the Rye Whiskey epicenter of the country. Wigle is a community distillery which makes spirits from grain to bottle, using local, certified organic ingredients. The Distillery serves as a community educational space and a dedicated innovation space for spirits. Wigle promotes transparency in distillation, as we build our collective spirits palate and return terroir to whiskey.

Packaging Assistant

About The Position

Threadbare Cider is hell bent on creating a vital, educated community around the highest quality, most inventive, bursting-with-terroir fermented and distilled products in the world. We make high quality ciders from the best local ingredients, treat one another as family and customers as friends. We invest in our communities to support the agricultural, social and economic systems of which we are apart. 

We are excited to begin our search for part-time Packaging Assistants to assist the production team in crafting and packaging our award-winning ciders at our production facility. Essential duties include, but are not limited to, 

  • set up, operation, and breakdown of bottling, labeling, kegging and pasteurization equipment
  • perform routine maintenance on the bottling line and other packaging equipment 

Duties the successful candidate may have the opportunity to grow into include, but are not limited to,

  • operate the batch pasteurizer at appropriate temperatures and times to ensure shelf stability of ciders
  • proper yeast handling, juice treatment, fermentation protocol, and operation of filtration equipment 
  • tank pressure management
  • cider blending and sensory analysis   

At Threadbare Cider & Mead we take sanitary techniques seriously, as our product quality depends on it. Packaging Assistants will receive instruction in proper chemical handling in addition to instruction in various CIP (clean-in-place) procedures. Physical demands include, but are not limited to, moving 50+ lbs, moving around a space for long periods of time, as well as repetitive movements. Training is provided. Previous forklift experience preferred, but not required. 

This position will require approximately 10 or more hours a week, 11 am - 7 pm with some flexibility in workdays. Please include a cover letter with your resume detailing why you are interested in this position and what skills you would bring to the role and our team.
