We are kicking off our Oktoberfest celebrations with the release of our O’Zapst is, a collaboration spirit with Penn Brewery! Gates open at 5 PM at the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden.

O’Zapst is is a great addition to our Brewer’s Series, a collection of spirits made in partnership with local breweries, O’Zapst is is made by directly distilling Penn Brewery Oktoberfest, a Munich-style lager with nutty, toasty, and caramel characteristics. O’Zapst is roughly means “it’s tapped” in Bavarian dialect, referring to the ceremony of tapping the first barrel of beer to celebrate Oktoberfest in Munich. Raise a glass of this Scotch-like spirit with notes of cherry, vanilla, and oak and celebrate the season!

We are celebrating with delicious grub from the Franktuary food truck and bites from Axel’s Pretzels, live music, and a presentation from one of our expert distillers at 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM.

Free entry, however we highly encourage you to purchase a $20 passport at the door. About Christopher Sexauer:

I am a multimedia artist working at the intersection of meta-modern conceptions and Late Capitalism, which is to say that I like looking through historic and contemporary artistic trends and trying to create works that are viewed in second person. At its core, my work wants to ask its audience how exactly we look at and consider works of art, how we conceptualize authenticity, and how we distinguish between creation and ownership. While highly conceptual in nature, my work functions on a fundamentally aesthetic level, ensuring that even those unconcerned with the influence of the Gutai Group enjoy the work.

While I have no formal training in visual art, I am able to draw on my education in both poetry and music to develop a form of critical theory that is universally applicable to  all forms of art. From my first major poetic works to my current art, I have always been concerned with the presentation of pieces of art not as individual units that impart meaning to a viewer, but rather as a context-heavy item that a viewer imparts meaning on to.

While my primary medium is acrylic paint, I use a number of different media, ranging from simple markers and thread to the heavily experimental use of fire, nails, and pre-existing pieces of art. In this way I am able to create work that forces the viewer to consider their own opinions and feelings about art and the ownership of art.

Walkabout Apple Whiskey has become one of Wigle’s biggest annual releases! Walkabout was developed five years ago at Chatham University’s Masters in Food Studies program in a New Product Development course taught by Wigle co-owner Meredith Grelli.

The spirit combines the qualities of aged American whiskey with the flavor of locally pressed apples. Production starts in the fall when we identify 18 to 24 month old small-cask whiskey barrels. Apple-wood staves are added directly to the barrels to begin to impart apple flavors into the spirit. After an additional six weeks aging with the apple staves, the whiskey is diluted to bottling strength with freeze-concentrated apple cider from Soergel’s in Wexford, PA.

We are celebrating with the Gaucho Asado food truck, live music from Her Ladyship, free tastings of Walkabout Apple Whiskey with registration, a Johnny Appleseed distiller’s presentation at 6:30 PM & 7:30 PM with detailed information about this apple whiskey, and the option to purchase a $20 passport at the door for the BEST deals on drinks!
